Alex’s journey from AccessAbility Day job trial to paid employment
As part of AccessAbility Day last year, a day where Employers explored the possibly of employing a jobseeker with disability whilst also providing an opportunity for participants to gain an insight into a particular job or type of work, one of our participants Alex spent the day at Jimmy G’s café in Tuggerah.
Alex spent the day learning about the hospitality industry and experiencing a day in the life of a hospitality worker. Both Alex and the team at Jimmy G’s thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So much so that Alex was offered an internship working at the Café!
Marlon, Operations Manager for Jimmy G’s said “Disabilities are varied and sometimes we realise that we can actually help people to learn a skill or trade in the workplace, becoming a rewarding experience for both business and job seekers”
When asked about if the AccessAbility day was of value to the staff members of Jimmy G’s? Marlon stated “Yes it was. It helps them understand the importance of helping and teaching skills to other members of the community and people with disabilities”
Alex has now been offered a paid position at the café and recently started paid employment.
Congratulations Alex and thankyou to Jimmy G’s Café Tuggerah for being part of initiatives that change the lives of individuals and create positive impact in the community.
