How is the Disability Employment Service changing?

Here are some frequently asked questions and answers to help guide you in better understanding the changes that the Australian Government is making to the Disability Employment Services from the 1st July 2018.

Q. How is Disability Employment Services changing from the 1st July 2018?

From the 1st of July there will be changes to Disability Employment Service (DES) that will give you more choice and control over the support services you receive.

These changes will make it easier to choose another Disability Employment Service that best meets your needs.

Q. Why is the Disability Employment Service Changing?

The Australian Government asked people with disability, peak organisations, service providers and employers for feedback on how to improve the Disability Employment Services initiative.

This has led to changes to provide eligible job seekers and participants with greater choice and control of providers and of the services they receive and how they receive them.

The changes aim to improve the overall experience of being a participant of Disability Employment Services and help more people with an injury, illness, health condition and disability into employment.

Q. I have recently received a letter that talks about changes to Disability Employment Services (DES)?

If you have received a letter detailing your current Disability Employment Provider is closing and will no longer be providing Disability Employment Services you can now choose us.

This means you can now choose Olympus Solutions |Ability Options to provide Disability Employment Services to ensure that your support remains uninterrupted.

Q.  Is Ability Options one of the DES providers closing on 1 July 2018?

No. Ability Options will continue to service all job seekers in all its current locations – one of the very few DES providers to do so! So really, it’s no change for you if you’re current participant.

Q. What if I am currently suspended from receiving DES services?

Q. Will the changes to DES have any impact on my Centrelink income support?

Changes to DES are not designed to impact on your Centrelink income support. However, you should always discuss any concerns related to income benefits with Centrelink.

You will continue to receive the same individual support, tailored to help you achieve your employment goals. There will be some improvements designed to help you. Our focus is on understanding, respecting, valuing and providing individualised support will remain

Q. Is there anything I need to do?

In most cases, you will not need to do anything. Olympus Solutions | Ability Options is working to make sure any DES changes will have little impact on you.
